How to care for your Monstera.

How to care for your Monstera.

There are about 59 species in the Monstera genus and whether ts the Aldo, Swiss Cheese, Thai Constellation or other, they share a basic care routine. Bright indirect light, well-draining soil, humidity, moderate water. However, some variations exist, especially for variegated types needing more light and humidity, or rare species like M. obliqua, which are much more challenging, so while the core needs are similar, specific needs can vary by species and variegation.

Light & Placement

Place near a window with filtered sunlight, like east or north-facing, or several feet from a south/west window. Avoid harsh, direct sun which can scorch leaves.

Provide a moss pole, trellis, or stake for it to climb, mimicking its natural habitat and encouraging larger leaves.

Watering & Soil

Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry, use the "knuckle test" (finger in the soil). Water thoroughly until it drains, then empty the saucer and never let it sit in water.

If there are yellow leaves, a signal of too much water, drain well its soil using a peat-based mix with perlite or coco coir in a pot with drainage holes to prevent soggy roots.

Temperature & Humidity

Keep in average room temperatures (above 60°F / 15°C) and aim for  high humidity of 50-60%+ . Use a humidifier, pebble tray, or by grouping plants as in a tropical environment.

Fertilizing & Pruning Fertilize

Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer monthly during spring and summer and reduce or stop in fall and winter.

Trim to maintain shape and encourage bushier growth.

With some basic caring, you'll enjoy the majesty and personality of your monstera.
